Labor: the long story

So...this is how it happened. For those of you that don't know, I was due May 1st. At my appt on Apr 22, I was dilated to a 2 and my Dr and I decided to schedule me for the 28th (and he was confident I was going to make it that far). Anyway, the next night at 3 am I passed a fist-sized blood clot and the Dr said to go ahead and go to the hospital. Many wicked contractions, an IV, and finally an epidural later, the Dr came and broke my water at 7:30 and I was dilated to a 4. Scott had an important final at 9, and again the Dr was confident that the baby wouldn't come til after lunch so Scott left me and went to school. At 8:45 the Dr came to to say he was going to the office and almost didn't check, but I was a 9. So he left to get some breakfast instead and I called Scott to tell him he'd better get back fast (on the Dr's phone b/c mine was already dead). She was facing the wrong way and had the cord wrapped around her neck twice, and we tried to wait for Scott, but she was anxious and came into the world at 9:09 am. Scott ran in a few minutes later after they'd cut the cord and got to hold her since he couldn't take any pictures b/c the battery in the camera was also dead. We got to see the placenta and the Dr said that the blood clot I'd passed was probably from an abruption(?) where the placenta starts to come away from the uterus, and between that and the cord being wrapped around her neck, it was good she came early and all.
That may be too much information for some of you, but I think that's about it.

Poll: Who does she look like?

When Xander was born, it was obvious he has my nose. When we first saw Maggie we thought she looked just like Scott - but now we're not so sure...

Baby Girl Foote

Surprise! Our beautiful baby girl was born yesterday at 9:09 am weighing 7 lbs 7 oz and 19 1/2 inches. We're still working on the name... Scott's mom flew in last night to stay with Xander and everybody's doing great! I'll write more later - just wanted to let people know.

neigh-neigh

Xander has loved horses for a long time (and he makes sure we take a carrot to the horse at church). I keep hoping he will grow out of it or I'm afraid Scott will end up getting him a real one someday.
The people Scott works with at the school library gave him a cute stuffed dog for the baby. But it's no ordinary stuffed animal - when you push on its back it pops! So even though this dog is pink, Xander keeps stealing it out of the baby's bed. Then yesterday he got to go to school with Scott and they had just gotten a new shipment of these stuffed animals in the school store. I swear this boy has eyes like a hawk because he saw the horse before Scott did and grabbed it and hasn't let go since.
Then, when he got home and finished telling me about what he'd been doing with his dad, he took the horse to Scott's table and gave it an adjustment! It was pretty hilarious!

a day at the park

Scott took off to school to study for the entire day, so we hung out at the park with some friends. It was a little chilly (only about 65 and windy) but we had a great time!

Gardening

This is me gardening at 8 1/2 months pregnant. Actually, I can't take even take all the credit, Scott helped. I'm so excited to grow some vegetables this year, and the flowers just make me happy - hopefully I don't kill them all.

Pickle Anyone?

This is Xander's dear friend, Adison. She got to hang out with us while her new baby brother was being born. Nothing like eating a pickle in a hammock.
